The DUO iteration. Explorations in remote dialogue

I N T E R T E X T U A L E S :

Between latin american performances and actions 2020 / 2022

The Toad and The Pigeon / duo of artists who created the project:

Ruth Vigueras Bravo (MX) + Milton Afanador Alvarado (CO)

Project Description:

I N T E R T E X T U A L E S is a project that promotes the relationship between a visual, oral and written text accompanied by a set of registers linked to action art and performance. To build dialogues between 20 participating artists from diverse backgrounds in Latin America, who will work in duo, where they will put into dialogue the production and critical understanding of the discourse of the invited creators.

This project was conceived and articulated in the second half of 2020. In which models were created to generate products conceived as a museographic exercise mediated by technology and the development of a catalogue or virtual book, which will allow for a harmonious curatorial design. In this way, virtual and travelling exhibitions will be held in Colombia-Mexico binational venues.

Performance Opera, a Manifesto. CONVERSATION – interVIEW

“Our urgency as artists is also to define with exact words the activity we carry out, delving into what each chosen word means in its own right”

VestAndPage : Verena Stenke(DE) + Andrea Pagnes (IT)

Working together since 2006 as VestAndPage, theatre practitioners and artists Verena Stenke and Andrea Pagnes investigate poetics and politics in a spherical sense, as that which interferes with each other, influences each other, contagious and creates, under pressure or risk, something new indeterminate. Its practice gives rise to here and now interpretations of existingmodels in literature, philosophy and mythology through the fields of micro- and macro-spherology, throughthe limits of communication, the boundaries of private and social spheres, fragility, transformation, impermanence and the activation of memory.

In addition to generating collective works with other performance and interdisciplinary artists, the DÚO maintains a commitment in the area of training by providing constant workshops and tutorials.

Paul Couillard & Ed Johns

Duorama:

For the last 22 years Paul Couillard and Ed Johnson have been working together on Duorama, a series of performance art works that explore notions of relationship—to each other, to the surrounding environment, and to audiences. Responding to site and examining cultural attitudes toward male intimacy are key elements of their process. Recurring themes revolve around queering spaces, surfacing hidden histories, imagining new hybridities, and exploring shifting interpretations of what is political and what is personal. Many of the works can be read in terms of the current social and political climate surrounding gay culture, offering askance references to issues such as marriage, HIV-status, and masculinity. Playful, beguiling and often minimalist, these pieces draw on the collaborative and competitive tensions that underlie partnerships To date, 129 Duorama performances have been presented at galleries, festivals and various events in Canada, France, Poland, Croatia, Ukraine, Belarus, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, USA, Singapore, Ireland, UK, Argentina, and Mexico.

DISLOCADA : DISLOCATED – Virtual video performance exhibition

A proposal for the collectivisation of curatorship (diverse choice on a common source) – Collective of 7 collectives

ABOUT THE DISLOCADA/DISLOCATED EXHIBIT:

Curatorial project created in 2019. The exhibition Dislocada/Dislocated is made up of several curatorial collectives: Cuerpos Disidentes – Dissident Bodies (Philadelphia, USA), BrobDinGnag -BDG- (Philadelphia, USA), Casa de Duende (Philadelphia, USA), No Nation (Chicago, USA), Encuentro de Acción en Vivo y Diferido -AVD- (Bogotá, Colombia), La Sonora Performancera (Oaxaca, MX) and LiveHive (Goa,India). The Dislocada/Dislocated collective was convened by Salomé Cosmique (a Colombian visual artist and performer based in Philadelphia) under the Philadelphia-based collective Dissident Bodies, creating an international curatorial platform for video performance work. Since 2019, the collectives have come together to manage a transnational curatorial project that holds open calls for video submissions addressing a wide range of socio-cultural, political, environmental, gender and other topics and issues. Given its global composition, the diverse collectives that make up Dislocada/Dislocated seek to create ruptures or dislocations of cultural conditioning, heteronormativity and gender struggles, which they see as social constructs to be critiqued and dismantled by creating spaces to question these imperatives and in doing so, create a wider acceptance of different and more radical points of view.
